You will have to locate the screw on the top of the lock housing (usually the upper right corner). It could be hidden beneath certain plastic pieces or barely visible. If you cannot locate it then use a screwdriver to remove the trim panels blocking your view of the screw. Then, use a hammer or awl or a small screwdriver to release the tab on the lock cylinder that holds it and remove the cylinder straight out of the housing. Once you have the cylinder removed and reassembled, there are some things to do to prepare it to use. The keyway needs to be cleared of grease and dirt, and the cylinder needs to be lubricated to keep it from squeezing into the lock. This can be accomplished using brake cleaner. It will clean and lubricate all lock cylinder parts. After using the cleaner, you can remove the 10mm bolt holding the handle to the cylinder housing using a screwdriver. Install the new cylinder, and then use your original key to operate it. It is best to buy a cylinder with the same brand and model as your existing one. This will ensure that it fits properly and seals securely. After installation, test the door to confirm that the lock is working properly and the door is shut securely. If you have a cylinder that is mounted on the surface remove the faceplate from the door handle and unscrew one or two setscrews for the cylinder. Once the screw is removed You can turn the cylinder so that you can take it out of the door. Put the screws in a bag or a secure place to replace them later. The most frequent issue with the cylinder of a car lock is that it won't rotate when you attempt to use your key. This can be caused by corrosion or dirt that has built up, stopping the cylinder from moving freely. It is easy to fix this problem by lubricating the mechanism. You can use brake cleaner to rid your cylinder of any rust and grime or commercial lubricant like white grease. This method only works on a jammed cylinder. It can't solve any other problems. Door Lock Repair A door lock may become jammed due to rust, dirt, or other debris. This can be resolved by spraying WD-40 onto the mechanism. This will allow you to loosen the mechanism and also prevent the issue from occurring in the future. If you're unable to get the lock to turn, try wiggle the rod up and down with needle-nose pliers. If this doesn't work then you should contact an locksmith to repair the lock. Another issue with door locks is misalignment. This makes the lock difficult to operate and is a security concern because it makes the door easier to bypass in a break-in attempt. A locksmith should be called to fix the issue, but you can usually solve the issue yourself. Start by examining the lock to determine what is causing it not to work properly. If the issue is caused by a misaligned deadbolt or strike plate tighten the screws that support these items. Then, move the strike plate and bolt to ensure they are aligned with the door frame. A small amount of graphite can be used to resolve the issue if the key won't insert or turn. You can apply graphite by squeeze the tube or dusting the key with a spare. Insert G28 Car Keys and operate it a couple of times to activate the graphite in the mechanism. If this doesn't work, you may take the knob off and check the spindle; it may be worn out. The process for taking off a door handle or panel is different based on the vehicle, but it is generally the same. After removing the panel, you'll need to locate the set screws holding the lock cylinder. They are typically located in the middle of the panel or on the inside of the door handle, depending on the brand and model. Unscrew the screws, and then move the cylinder to ensure that it is in alignment with the keyway. It is possible to damage the components if you overtighten the screws. Door Lock Replacement If your lock is worn-out or looks a bit old, replacing it will provide a new look. It's a simple task that can be completed at home by following just a few steps. Just be sure to take the time to examine the deadbolt and latch to be able to ensure that your new locks are properly set. Remove the screws that fix the knob plate in the door. Then, pull the knob and latch out. If the interior plate has no screws and is decorative take it off gently using the screwdriver. The plate may be held in place by a pin or may just snap off the edge. Once the plate has been removed, it is easy to remove both the deadbolt and latch. It's time to put in the new lock plates. Make sure that the interior and exterior plates are aligned over the deadbolt hole on the jamb of the door, with the long spindle of metal from the lock cylinder mechanism moving through both holes. Once the plates are placed, you can thread screws through the screw holes to hold them in place. If the plate doesn't have screw holes, then you can simply slide it on the latch. When putting the lock back together, make sure not to reuse the old screws (unless you have the same color). Use the screws included in your new lock kit instead. If you don't already have the right size screws, go to a hardware or home improvement shop and purchase a set of screws that match the rest of the hardware that is included on your new door lock. Make sure that your new latch plates and deadbolts are exactly the same size as the original ones, and that they're aligned with the jamb's hole. Once everything is set, drive the remaining screws to tighten them tightly. Now you can test the latch and deadbolt by using your key. If the key isn't turning you can call locksmith.
